Serving much?

Luke 10 was part of my Daily Bible Reading Plan for today. How timely, as we just discussed this at Bible Study on Tuesday night.  God is good.

Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the lords feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:38-42 ESV)

Lord, daily remind me that you don't want me to be "distracted with much serving" but let me remember to constantly sit at your feet listening to you.

Happy Good Friday!

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalms 118:24 ESV)

As my pastor's wife says often (because we need to be reminded often) "the ground is level at the foot of the cross". The only person we should put on a pedestal is Jesus. Not our pastors, mentors, husbands, deacons, ministry leaders, or anyone else. We all sin and we all fall from grace on a daily basis. Some sins are more apparent than others. Instead of looking UP to our "pedestal people" look BESIDE for examples of those living lives of repentance and follow their lead by looking UP to the One who took our place and paid our debt and gives us the strength to overcome the sin that so easily entangles. Enjoy Good Friday basking in the freedom that Jesus gives on the cross.
